I've been saving up all your posts for when I have time to go through and read them all properly and now it's all there, I'm moving it right to the top of the TBR. amazing achievement writing, editing, posting it consistently and even recording it all - I'm in awe!
Thanks Ruby - at least I started from a good draft and not entirely from scratch. Still it was a big job! I really enjoyed the process though so it didn’t feel like a slog. Hope you find it an interesting read (or listen). 😎
Aww I love the photos Jacqui. I love that dress !! Loved reading your posts, harrowing at times, but you got through it , thank god !! Out the other end and enjoying life to the fullest
Thanks Francis!! I'm not great when it comes ro pictures of myself so it took a bit of bullet biting to get that done! I'm guessing tou mean the bright blue dress? That was probably the most flattering thing I've ever owned! 😎
An amazing journey and such a detailed approach and needing lots of determination to peresevere to the end. So proud of you. Lets hope publishing opportunities will open up. Lots of love, Aunty Mary x
You’re right Lee it’s an amazing place - I hope we’ll be able to go there again one day, ideally without those planks stuck to our feet! Thanks for the congrats - I’m curious to see what comes next for you too.
I will miss these weekly instalments. This is something I have absolutely no experience of, but I found it really interesting reading about your experiences. It's so engaging! Congratulations, and good luck with whatever you decide to do with it next
Thanks for all the support Jane and I’m so happy that you found it interesting. There will be more and I can imagine I’ll be back to posting every week very soon. Right now I think I deserve a week or two off - though I’m not convinced I can keep my sticky fingers away from my keyboard!
Such an achievement, Jacqui, serialising your book. Thanks for the kind mention, it's been a pleasure to read along and share your rollercoaster of illness and recovery.
Great photos, and the one of you in your swim gear after doing an open swim just 8 months on is so inspiring. You don't do things by halves! x
Thanks Wendy! And you’re right once I decide I’m going to do something I am going to do it come what may. Did I mention how stubborn I can be?!
So I had total FOMO after choosing not to do that swim this summer. Needless to say I signed us up yesterday (the day registration opened!) to do it again next August.
But sanity has prevailed and I’ve booked the 1km course instead of the 2km which means I just get the best bit of the course, I don’t need to do more training than my normal pool swims each week. I also get to avoid the more wild open water start where the diesel fumes from the boats tended to mess horribly with my asthma. Kim just sighed when I started bouncing up and down in excitement yesterday!!! ;o)
Jacqui - a laudable project, deeply considered and an essential long-missed account -life as it is lived - validating and therapeutic. A biographical book long needed.
I hope you might meet the people of sepsistrust.org here - and that the team there might support the distribution (Holiday reading for GPs ... )
I hope you'll first find an agent and soon find a publisher
and should that not be your route I am very impressed by Empress Editions and some of the support those such as Jericho Writers offer
Once I published a book as a kindle - it's quite free of charge to publish via Amazon but it can be quite tricky - even impossible - to gain financially from doing so.
Medical Schools might be interested.
And very well done.
A fabulous and inspiring project.
Thank you also for your kind support and for our growing friendship here.
Thank you so much for your kind words and advice Cherry - it’s means a lot. I’ll definitely go and investigate your suggestions. One of my highlights of being on Substack this year has definitely been meeting and getting to know you. Sending you a BIG hug from a wonderfully sunny (and not cold!) Copenhagen.

I enjoyed the old photos. I too went skiing in Lake Tahoe. A beautiful place.
Congrats on reaching the end of your book! I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Lovely to know you’ll be on the best bit of the swimming quest next August, Jacqui. Bravo!

Substack is (so far) the kindest online space I have gone across. More than glad to meet you here.
